The master plan for the construction of the Wuhan New City, which stretches across Wuhan and Ezhou, was officially issued in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province on Feb 7.
The innovative base of the new city is located in the core area of the East Lake Science City, which is in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone (also known as Optics Valley of China, or OVC).
The Wuhan New City will strive to become a top sci-tech innovation base, a national strategic emerging industry hub, a center for national sci-tech finance and international exchange, and an excellent example in modern living space and wetland-surrounded cities.
The new city is made up of eight areas, including those in OVC, Huashan Mountain, Longquan Mountain, Honglian Lake, and Wutong Lake.
The strategic emerging industries to be laid out in the new city are optoelectronics, life and health, automobile manufacturing, and robot-based smart manufacturing.
Groundbreaking progress will also be made in digital economy, especially when it comes to city infrastructure and architecture.
In addition, the new city will also hold international conferences, accommodate high-end hotels, build special business districts, develop health maintenance businesses, create ecological sightseeing spots, and offer recreational services.
An integrated public transport system will be set up in the new city as well, and by 2035, public transport options will account for at least 40 percent of all options available, and all residents will be within a 500-meter walk from a bus station.
